“Facebook depression”

“Facebook depression” has grabbed numerous headlines since the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released the clinical report on social media, which appears in the current issue of Pediatrics.

Media soundbites have focused on a small section of the report in which “Facebook depression” is described.  But until there’s longer-term data to support the term, it’s merely another potential hazard that comes with an unhealthy balance of social media immersion.

The seven page report is easy reading – especially because the last several pages are end notes – and offers a fairly comprehensive overview of both the positives and negatives of social media and kids.
