Everybody won

On July 25, the New York Public Library began a neat program that boosted summer reading and help shrink outstanding fines:  kids who signed up for the summer reading program, could erase $1 in fines for every 15 minutes of reading.

The Read Down Your Fines program ended last Friday, but it was great to see a program in which everyone came out a winner. Perhaps  parental advocacy would encourage educators and libraries in other cities to adopt similar programs next summer.
