Transmedia goes to school

The new Earth Ranger video games, which recently launched on the National Geographic Kids site, are good examples of what we’re already seeing in the new school year:  educators are embracing transmedia.

Defined as content which crosses multiple platforms, transmedia is trending in the classroom.  This means your child might  watch undersea environmentalists  on a barrier reef in real-time, then play a video game  to gain information for the power point presentation she’ll make to the class.

Of course, teachers have always used AV (Remember when we used the term audio-visual?) to enhance learning, but during this school year,  the use of transmedia, including video games like those in the new Earth Ranger series, will be integrated across all academic subjects.
