Virtual schools

New data from the National Education Policy Center at the University of Colorado indicate that virtual schools are basically unregulated.  Online learning has grown far beyond the initial home school population and continues to increase in popularity.

I’ve wondered about accountability for learners, when teachers can’t verify that the students themselves take tests.

The study authors suggest accreditation by independent agencies and audits.  That last point should resonate with all of us, since many online schools function as charter schools, which means they are funded by our taxes.
