A new definition

As an early childhood educator, I’ve always defined parallel play as a developmental stage during the preschool years:  two children play side by side, without interacting with each other.

The portability of digital media is re-defining parallel play;  it’s now when two family members sit together during leisure time,  each linked to a different device.

I can’t help but wonder about the implications for parent-child communication.
