Watching how Smartphones and iPads are competing for space in children’s Christmas stockings next week, I was reminded of research conducted by Verizon Wireless earlier this year. (http://smartphoneparenting.com/survey.html)
The national online survey reported that the average age at which kids get their first cell is 11.6 years. Not surprising.
But what totally stunned me was that one in five parents have not discussed safe use of a cell phone. I certainly hope that a serious parent-child conversation will be included with every cell that is unwrapped this weekend.
By the way, Verizon offers some excellent parent resources on cell phone use for kids: http://smartphoneparenting.com/tipsforparents.html
