Beyond the cookie jar

The Girl Scouts are headed in new directions, and not merely because members can earn badges in geocaching and netiquette.

In an effort to re-focus attention on  helping girls  develop twenty-first century leadership skills, the organization has rolled out a new campaign, “To get her there.”  Members now swipe credit cards for cookie customers.  Virtual troops, which allow non-geographically based girls to connect as a group, are being piloted.

Not bad for an organization celebrating 100 years.  Happy birthday!
