Intuitive eating

Although we’re nearing the “heavy plate” season, I’m guessing that the intuitive eating pattern that’s emerged during the last couple years will continue at least through the holidays.

In restaurants and even fast food outlets, I’ve observed fewer parents say, “A clean plate is a happy plate.” This allows children to determine for themselves when they were full.

Perhaps the fact that more children are learning internal clues to self-regulate food intake contributed to what we heard earlier this fall:  that there’s been a slight drop in the obesity level among children.

Good news, especially as we face the choice of apple or pumpkin pie tomorrow.
