I’ve been watching as some parents have off-loaded child supervision to technology. Have you seen it, too?
App-enabled monitors allow parents to have a continual read-out on a baby’s temperature. Monitoring mats let parents know when a baby moves. Onesie sensor suits give a constant stream of information.
In one way, this digital “second set of eyes” gives parents a sense of freedom to eat a semi-relaxed supper or grab a quick shower. Years ago, as a mom with three preschoolers, I would have loved that!
But if the monitoring continues past babyhood, how will older kids feel, knowing they are always being watched by the ever-present “second set of eyes?”
