Reading for fun

I was saddened, but not surprised, to see one of the conclusions in the new “Kids & Family Reading Report” released earlier this month.

This fifth edition of the research from Scholastic notes that fewer kids are reading books for fun.

Although some might point to digital culprits, I wonder how much can be attributed to the current “test culture.” Students spend so many hours either preparing for exams or taking them, there’s little time for recreational reading, either at home or in school.
